The Anatomy of a Professional Pool Cleaning
Skimming leaves is just the beginning. Discover what actually goes into a comprehensive, professional pool cleaning...
Read Guide →When regular brushing and chemical balancing just aren't cutting it anymore, and your once-vibrant pool surface is plagued by stubborn stains, algae blooms, or severe scale buildup, it might be time for a professional acid wash.
In the high desert of the Antelope Valley, our pools battle high winds, dust, and hard water, which can take a massive toll on plaster surfaces over the years.
What is Acid Washing?
Acid washing (sometimes called drain and clean) is exactly what it sounds like. It involves completely draining your pool and applying a specialized muriatic acid mixture directly to the plaster. This process actively strips away a microscopic layer of the plaster, taking all the embedded dirt, algae, calcium, and mineral stains along with it.
Signs Your Pool Needs an Acid Wash
- Persistent Algae: If algae keeps coming back despite perfect chemical balance, it may be embedded in the porous plaster.
- Severe Staining: Rust, copper, or organic leaf stains that brushing won't remove.
- Scale Buildup: Hard, rough calcium deposits coating the walls and floor.
- Dull Appearance: When your plaster just looks old, yellowed, and tired.
Why Hire a Professional?
Acid washing is not a DIY project. Muriatic acid is highly corrosive and dangerous. If mixed incorrectly or left on the plaster too long, it can severely etch and permanently ruin your pool's surface.
At AV Pool Pros, our experienced technicians know exactly how to safely drain your pool (monitoring hydrostatic pressure to prevent the pool from "popping" out of the ground) and apply the perfect acid ratio to restore your pool's brilliance without damaging the structural integrity.
